Wolverhampton Wanderers have been given a suspended £25,000 fine by the Premier League over the club fielding a weakened team against Manchester United in December.
Three days earlier before Premier League clash at Manchester United, Wolves had won 1-0 at Tottenham Hotspurs. Manager Mick McCarthy made ten changes to the team resting players for the upcoming key clash with Burnley which Wolves won 2-0 in the end.
The official statement from The Premier League:
"Wolverhampton Wanderers FC have been issued with a suspended £25,000 fine after deciding that the team fielded in their league fixture against Manchester United on 15 December 2009 was not full strength and therefore in breach of Rule E20."
Premier League rule E20: In every league match each participating club should field a full-strength team.
Premier League's decision is ridiculous and unfair to Wolves for their squad rotation with the view of resting players during busy match schedule. Teams like Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal are more likely we saw fielding a weakened team in less important competition but didn't punished.
Lastly, it's wrong Premier League can decides a club's "full strength" team. Only the manager knows his team's best.
